It persisted as a mosque until 1935, when the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,, among his wave of reforms, transformed the Hagia Sophia into a museum. Very recently, in 2020, the Turkish president Erdoğan converted the building into a mosque once again.
The Blue Mosque, officially Sultan Ahmed Mosque, was built between 1609 and 1616 and it is an Imperial Mosque, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
Both buildings are massively famous worldwide, attracting millions of visitors every year.
