In what year was the fall of the Berlin Wall?

1989.

The Berlin Wall was a 155 km long physical barrier built in 1961 with the purpose of separating the Eastern region of Berlin (part of the Eastern Bloc) from the Western part (controlled by USA, France and the UK).

During the late 80’s, the reforms implemented by Mikhail Gorbachev (Glasnost and Perestroika) brought more openness to the whole sphere of the Soviet Union and resulted, among other important milestones, on tearing down of the Berlin Wall.

Betamax.

The videotape format war was a market competition in the 70’s/80’s between two different analogue video cassette solutions, opposing Betamax (by Sony) and VHS (by JVC).

The outcome of this “war” was determined by the  unitary production cost of each of these solutions.

Although Betamax could deliver a slightly better picture quality (not too significant from the end user perspective), its market price was significantly higher than the one for the VHS tape, ultimately making VHS to be preferred overtime and hence the winner of the videotape format war.
