Alexander Melville Bell (1819-1905).

Bell (father of Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone), was a British linguist who expanded the field of phonetics, speech and elocution enormously. He developed the Visible Speech, a system of phonetic symbols showing how to articulate the speech organs (like the tongue or the throat) to produce speech. It was used to help deaf people in learning how to speak.
