In what year was the fall of the Berlin Wall?
1989.
The Berlin Wall was a 155 km long physical barrier built in 1961 with the purpose of separating the Eastern region of Berlin (part of the Eastern Bloc) from the Western part (controlled by USA, France and the UK).
It was built with the purpose of avoiding emigration as a way of escaping from the Soviet Regime influence and any attempt of jumping over the wall would be punished with a death penalty.
During the late 80’s, the reforms implemented by Mikhail Gorbachev (Glasnost and Perestroika) brought more openness to the whole sphere of the Soviet Union and resulted, among other important milestones, on tearing down of the Berlin Wall.
